This book, which celebrates the centenary of the Photomaton, follows a first volume published in 2011. It offers an entirely renewed selection of images and a more substantial historical overview. Above all, it presents a previously unpublished inventory of more than seventy artists who have regarded, or still regard, the photo booth, whether digital or analogue, as an endless field of experimentation and creation.
Mireille Loup’s photo booth works appear alongside those of the Surrealists, Pierre et Gilles, JR, Hervé Guibert, Mathieu Boogaerts and others, 198-199 p.
The author Raynal Pellicer’s remarkable work showcases those who demonstrate, if proof were needed, that in the age of the selfie and Snapchat filters, photography without a photographer and the “non-conforming” self-portrait remain an intimate and unique experience. In 2011, he had already created the eponymous book and curated a resounding exhibition.
